How to Make a Burlap Wreath

If you're wondering how to make a burlap wreath, you're in luck. It's easy and it's popular. With farmhouse decorating being in fashion, burlap is homey and a reminder of simpler times. It can be dressed up or stand-alone, so it can fit any need.

On a personal note, when I was at the craft store buying supplies for this project, I had an encounter with a customer that made me realize that not only did I have to make this project; I had to share it too. A woman behind me in line asked what I was making. She had seen all the burlap throughout the craft store and said she didn’t know what to do with it. She said she always wants to try new things but gets intimidated. I explained what I was making and how easy it is, and I hope she goes back to try this because it's one of the easiest decorating projects to make. The finished product looks a lot more complicated than it is.

Supplies

➜ Wire wreath form (I used a 12” form. You can use whatever size works for your space.)
➜ Burlap (I used plain burlap ribbon that’s 15 feet long and eight inches wide.)
➜ Decorations (Can be tailored to personal style.)

Instructions

➜ Tuck the end of the burlap through a few sections of the wire slats to hold it in place.

➜ Next to the tucked section pull your burlap through the row of wires closest to the middle. With your fingers, fluff the burlap to make a loop the size you prefer.

➜ Moving vertically away from the wreath center, pull your burlap through the middle row of wires, again fluffing the burlap into a loop. Then move on to the top row of wires making another fluffed loop.

➜ Once you’ve finished one vertical section, start again at the section of wire slats closest to the center of the wreath making loops as you move vertically.

➜When you’ve completely filled your wreath, tuck the end of your ribbon back through a few slats to hold it in place.

➜ To finish, decorate your wreath as you’d like. Or leave it plain, it looks pretty that way too.

PRO TIP — As you’re making your loops, make sure to bunch your vertical rows together to gain more room on the wreath. This will allow you to add more loops and make a fuller wreath.

A DIY burlap wreath can be useful no matter what the season. Just switch out the decorations with the changing seasons.
