How to Make a Wine Cork Wreath

After the holidays or any time of year, making a wine cork wreath is a fun and crafty way to display wine corks you’ve saved over time. I love looking at my wreath and remembering fun trips that yielded a bottle, or two, of wine to enjoy later.

Inspired by the beautiful wine cork wreaths I've seen when visiting wineries and restaurants, a little online research produced lots of different ways to make a wine cork wreath. I picked the method and style that I thought would work best for me.

How To Make Your Wine Cork Wreath

Choose a straw wreath base that best fits the number of corks you have on hand. My straw base measures 12 inches. Straw bases are cheap and easy to use.

Quick Tip: Remove the plastic wrap before you start working with the wreath base, but be careful not to remove the plastic wire that holds it together, otherwise, you’ll just be left with a pile of straw.

First, cover your wreath base so very little straw shows. Start by hot gluing the corks end to end around the wreath base in rows starting at the inside and working out. It’s important that you don’t cover the back of the wreath since that part needs to hang flat. For this step, I used my oldest and least pretty corks since most of this layer will never be seen.

Once the first layer is finished, you can get creative. Take your best corks and randomly cover your first layer by gluing directly onto it; taking special care to cover any holes. There is no rhyme or reason to this step. Corks can be horizontal, vertical, upside down or even laid so the wine-stained end shows best.

After the wreath is covered to your satisfaction, then you’re finished and it’s time to hang your masterpiece. I used a piece of burlap and tied it around the top to create a hanger.

I hope this inspires you to give a DIY wine cork wreath a try. It's a memory-filled decor piece you'll enjoy for years to come.
