How to Make Zipper Christmas Tree Ornaments

Although these ornaments are easy to make, they do require a hot glue gun. So, you’ll have to supervise the kiddos and help the young ones. Please keep in mind these are the supplies for the ornaments I made. You can substitute materials to suit your decorating style.

Supply List

22” gold or silver separating zipper

Antique gold beads or 12mm white pearls

Silver bead with a large hole

White 1/8” ribbon

Hot glue gun and glue sticks

Directions

Start by separating the zipper, cutting off the zipper pull at one end and cutting off the extra zipper fabric at the other end. Use one end of the zipper to make a loop around a bead or pearl. This loop will become the top of your tree. I used a little hot glue to secure this loop. 

Then start making loops; smaller at the top gradually getting bigger toward the bottom. I put nothing in the loop immediately after my top loop. But after that, I inserted a bead or pearl into the middle of each layer. Please note; this is where you really need to be careful using the hot glue. You’ve got to hold the layers together as you secure them with the bead or pearl. They need to dry and set up before you stop applying pressure and holding them together. 

You’ll want to add a gold bead or pearl to the bottom of your tree. I used the zipper pull as the star for my gold tree and used a silver bead with a hole for my silver tree topper. Once you’ve got the top of your ornament in place, you can tie a ribbon to the top and hang it on your tree. 

After you get the hang of making this zipper tree ornament, you can make them pretty fast. Just be sure to make some extras, because when you see them on your tree, you’ll definitely want to add more!
